While filmmaker Matthew Vaughn is the director of X-Men: First Class, he’s also a genuinely massive fan of the iconic Marvel characters.
And according to Vaughn, the introduction of beloved X-Men Wolverine and Deadpool, played by Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, respectively, is going to essentially save the Marvel Cinematic Universe by giving it a “jolt… back to life.”
“The few snippets that I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine — or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak — are unbelievable,” Vaughn told BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast ahead of the release of his new film Argylle.
“That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.”

Vaughn is hoping the platform established by Deadpool 3 will then allow Marvel Studios to tell exciting X-Men stories in the future.
“I’m a genuine fan of the X-Men, all I want is for the movies to be as good as they should be,” he explained.
Vaughn previously directed 2011’s X-Men: First Class, which was a soft reboot of the franchise that cast younger actors in the roles of Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), and so on, and is widely considered to be one of the best films in the original X-Men franchise at 20th Century Studios.
His latest film Argylle will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, February 2. The film boasts a star-studded ensemble cast that features the likes of Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson.
