As California continues to rebuild after the wildfires earlier this year, Apple’s latest survival drama immortalizes the deadliest fire in the state’s history.
In the first teaser for Paul Greengrass‘ The Lost Bus, premiering this fall in select theaters and on Apple TV+, Matthew McConaughey plays school bus driver Kevin McCay, who navigates infernal danger to rescue 23 stranded kids and their teacher Mary Ludwig (played by America Ferrera) from the 2018 Camp Fire.
The film also stars Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson and Spencer Watson.
Co-written by Greengrass and Brad Inglesby, The Lost Bus is inspired by true events featured in Lizzie Johnson’s 2021 book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. Igniting in Butte County in November 2018, the Camp Fire caused 86 fatalities and burned more than 150,000 acres.
“The Lost Bus is the story of quiet heroism — of people coming together in the face of the unthinkable. I’m honored to have been entrusted with this story,” said Greengrass.
The Lost Bus is produced by Ingelsby, Gregory Goodman, Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions and Jamie Lee Curtis for Comet Pictures, with Johnson executive producing.
