After it was reported last year that Matthew McConaughey would be starring in a Yellowstone sequel series, signs now point to the Academy Award winner potentially walking away from the project.
According to a recent report from Life & Style magazine, the 54-year-old is debating stepping away from the in-development series for a couple of reasons.
The first is that it’s been taking longer than usual to get an official deal done. The second, however, is far more interesting, as Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s less-than-stellar reputation is apparently also a factor.
“No deal has ever taken this long for Matthew,” says the insider. “Especially after he won his Oscar, getting folks to meet his asking price has been a breeze.”
But there may be another reason he might consider walking: show creator Taylor Sheridan’s not-so-sterling rep “Taylor’s got a reputation for being a jerk with a ‘God complex’. Matthew doesn’t particularly like behind-the-scenes drama.” [via Life & Style]
Sheridan’s reputation has been the topic of conversation for a couple of years now as a rift between him and series star Kevin Costner delayed the production and therefore the release of the final batch of episodes of Yellowstone, which are set to premiere later this year.
Landing McConaughey would obviously be a massive coup for the Yellowstone franchise as it would mark his first television role since helping to redefine the medium with True Detective a decade ago. Ironically enough, the review embargo for the fourth season of True Detective lifted earlier this week and many TV critics are calling it the best since the first.
