Daredevil: Born Again’s first season is really flying by. There’s a lot going on, from Daredevil’s recent battle with Muse (may he rest in Hell) to Heather’s deepening connection with the Fisks. The latter is what leads Heather to attend a charity ball hosted by the Mayor and his wife. And, of course, she gets to bring a plus one. That person is a reluctant Matt, who hates Wilson Fisk for obvious reasons. But, Matt is such a good man that he literally takes a bullet for Fisk during this event.
In this episode, Matt and Heather find themselves having polar opposite views when it comes to Fisk and his anti-vigilante stance. He discovers that the Fisks are Heather’s patients and expresses his dislike of Fisk. Heather reveals that she’s not a fan of vigilantes, which obviously upsets Matt because he is Daredevil. He’s also not happy that Fisk has an invitation for Heather delivered to his home, which means he knows the pair are dating. Also, he probably doesn’t want Fisk having his home address for any reason. Heather asks Matt to come and he initially declines, but soon decides to go with her.
While there, he cannot help but ear hustle. He discovers that Vanessa is the one who ordered Foggy’s death. Matt steps in for a dance with her to confront her and let’s her know he’s onto her shenanigans. But, before he can fully deduce why Vanessa did this, Dex pops up on the scene. Apparently, escaping from the general population area of a prison is a piece of cake for this guy. He’s aiming his shot right at Wilson Fisk, which Matt hears. He jumps into action and leaps in front of Fisk, taking the bullet and getting seriously wounded.
Of course, we know Matt Murdock will not die in Daredevil: Born Again. He’s the main character and there’s still a whole other season of this series. Also, it would be nuts for Marvel to bring him back only to kill him in such an unceremonious way. But maybe, just maybe, Wilson Fisk will leave him alone. (We doubt it but it’s a nice thought.)
