Christopher Nolan has spent much of recent months rounding up the cast for his next movie, which is set to be an adaptation of The Odyssey. Thus far, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and Robert Pattinson have signed on to star in the project.

Given the A-list, Oscar-nominated/winning cast and the legendary source material, The Odyssey is shaping up to be the biggest project of Christopher Nolan’s career, and the reported budget for the film would certainly support that idea.

According to Matthew Beloni of Puck News, Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, set to release in July 2026, will have a reported budget of $250 million. At this time, none of the parts the casted actors have playing have been confirmed, although its been speculated that Holland and Pattinson could be playing Odysseus’ at two different ages.

Now, while Interstellar is the film I used for a comparison in the title, it’s not the most expensive film of Nolan’s career despite its grandiosity: that title belongs to 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, which reportedly cost in the neighborhood of $230-$250 million.

Nolan’s last film Oppenheimer released in 2023 and saw the acclaimed director take home the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director. Cillian Murphy also won for Best Actor, while Robert Downey Jr. took home the prize for Best Supporting Actor.

Prior to Oppenheimer, Nolan was known for directing the film Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, The Dark Knight, The Prestige, Batman Begins, Insomnia, and Memento, establishing himself as one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of this generation.
