Margot Robbie Opens Up About Lady Gaga’s Role As Harley Quinn

92nd Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Actress Margot Robbie is very excited for Lady Gaga to play the role of the iconic Harley Quinn in the upcoming “Joker 2.” Robbie shared her excitement during a recent video interview and said that she’s always wanted Quinn to become a character that gets passed from actor to actor and evolves along the way.

Robbie said she was honored to build a foundation for Quinn, which other actresses can build upon. She also said she thinks Gaga will “do something incredible” with the role. Very little information about Joker 2 is available to the public right now, but it has been confirmed that Joaquin Phoenix is reprising the Joker and that the title is “Joker: Folie à Deux.”

Robbie has also been booked and busy, so it’s unlikely she would have been able to fit the Harley Quinn role into her schedule. The actress has several movies lined up for release in the next few years, such as Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon” and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie.”

Robbie is very excited to see Lady Gaga take on the role of Harley Quinn in the upcoming sequel to “Joker.” Many reports have claimed that Gaga is portraying Harley, but neither the actress nor Warner Bros have confirmed what character she’s playing in the film. Robbie first played Harley as a live-action character in “Suicide Squad” and again in “Birds of Prey” and the Suicide Squad sequel.

She shared her excitement during a recent video interview with MTV News. Robbie said, “It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters the way…like Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor. Someone gets to do their Batman, or someone gets to do their Macbeth.”

Robbie also explained that she’s honored that she got to build a foundation for the Harley Quinn character, which other actresses can now build on. She said, “I feel like, in not so many cases, are there female characters – Queen Elizabeth I, but beyond that, which I got to have a crack out as well, which I was honored to do. I was like, ‘Wow! Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I. Now I get to.’”

The “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” actress continued, “It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing.” Robbie also stated that she thinks Gaga will “do something incredible” with the role of Harley.
