Call him ‘Construction God’ or the ‘Brick King.’ Call him whatever you want just make sure you put some respect on Michael Schlund’s name after he won the ‘Super Bowl of Masonry‘ in Las Vegas for the SECOND TIME IN A ROW.
With one hour to successfully lay as many bricks as possible, Michael Schlund defended his title at the 2024 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® World Championship after laying down 752 bricks in 60 minutes, a feat mere mortals could only ever dream of achieving.
According to a report from WSAW’s Sean White, Michael Schlund bested 26 competitors in the 22nd annual SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® World Championship to win back-to-back titles along with a new Chevy Silverado, $15K in prize money, and an Essick Pro12 Mixer which is valued at over $10,000.
While standing on stage receiving praise for winning the most illustrious title in brick laying for the second year in a row, Schlund told Tom Clark about how nervous he was, saying “Ccrazy, just crazy — I was more nervous this year laying than last year!”
As for what kind of prep work goes into an event like this, Michael Schlund also spoke to WSAW, saying “weeks before we left for Las Vegas, Aaron and I practiced 10 times trying different strategies. I’ve got to thank the guys who donated the brick and my boss for buying the SPEC MIX mortar for us to practice.” He added “I need to look up at my buddy, Joe, he passed away about a week after I won the event last year — I know he was smiling down on us today.”
Footage of the most electric event in Las Vegas this month is certain to hit the Internet soon, especially after they released this incredible hype real ahead of the competition:
I simply did not know it was possible to be this hyped up for the Bricklayer World Championship but here we are. This event is as awesome as things get on The Ocho.
For anyone looking to unseat the champ next year, you’ll have to put in the work through qualifiers. The SPEC MIX website has all the information needed on that.
