Akerman has a busy schedule. However, she always makes time for wellness. She talked about her schedule to Good Housekeeping. “It’s definitely hard to find the time, especially when I’m working,” Akerman says. “Like any working mother, I do the best I can and balance my schedule so I have time to take care of myself. Part of that time is working out and making sure I’m eating healthy.”
Akerman opened up about her approach to exercise to Good Housekeeping. She says that she aims to workout on a regular basis. Akerman also says that her work schedule affects the amount of times she aims to workout. “When I’m shooting, I always aim for three workouts during the week on average,” Akerman says. “It’s a realistic goal for me, and then I can supplement it with workouts and activities on the weekends.”
Akerman makes sure to eat healthy. She shared some of her meals to Good Housekeeping. “I always need breakfast. I need that energy to start the day, and it saves me from making bad decisions when the mid-morning hunger kicks in. I love a green smoothie for breakfast, or sometimes it’s eggs or oatmeal. Lunch is usually a salad with protein, and then for dinner I like to do a hot meal – a good one is fish and vegetables with brown rice or quinoa
Akerman revealed some of her favorite workouts to Parade. She says that she does a lot of different things to stay in shape. “I’ve been doing a lot of online workouts, and I love Obé Fitness,” Akerman says. “It’s an app that has everything from Pilates and yoga to cardio boxing and dance classes. I like to change it up because some days I feel stronger and want to do weights. Other days, I feel like I need to stretch it out. We have a dog and live close to Griffith Park in Los Angeles, so I also go hiking a lot.”
Akerman tells Parade that she includes a lot of produce in her diet. “My goal is to have 80 percent of my diet be vegetables and fresh fruit,” she revealed. “Whenever I cook a meal, I go to the fridge and say, ‘What veg are we going to have today and what am I going to accompany the veg with?’ Then I’ll toss in some protein and good carbs, like sweet potatoes or quinoa.”
