The famous Malibu waterfront, known for its amazing views and expensive homes, has been reduced to rubble by the Southern California fires. During a recent press conference, LAFD chief Anthony Marrone revealed that nearly 1,000 structures, including those in Malibu and Santa Monica, were destroyed in the Pacific Palisades fire.

“We have well over 5,000 acres that have burned, and the fire is growing,” Los Angeles Fire Chief Anthony Marrone told reporters. “We have no percentage of containment. We have an estimated 1,000 structures destroyed.”

Local Malibu residents have spoken about the destruction of their homes.

“There are a ton of people who have been there for generations whose families have had homes there, and I’m not talking about mansions,” said Malibu resident Elle Johnson. “I’m talking about just kind of blue-collar, working-class people, farmers and just other people living off the land who really love it there and love the nature.”

On Thursday, a video showing the devastation of the Malibu waterfront before and after went viral on social media.
