EXCLUSIVE: M3GAN 2.0 is in production as it heads for a June 27, 2025 theatrical release with Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari and Jemaine Clement boarding the Blumhouse, Atomic Monster and Divide/Conquer sequel.
Also returning from the original 2023 $181M global grossing movie is Brian Jordan Alvarez as Cole and Jen Van Epps as Tess.
Gerard Johnstone, as we previously told you, is returning to the helm with a screenplay penned by Akela Cooper, who wrote the first film.
Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, and Jenna Davis were previously confirmed to return for the sequel which will also star Ivanna Sakhno.
Jason Blum, James Wan and Williams are producers on M3GAN 2.0. Michael Clear and Judson Scott, of Wan’s Atomic Monster banner, will EP. Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek is also an EP with Mark Katchur. Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath, from Divide/Conquer, are also EPs.
Sharp’s acting career started with Undeclared for FOX, created by Judd Apatow. Since then, Sharp has starred in dozens of movies and over 40 TV shows including Enlightened, ’til Death, Blunt Talk, Drunk History, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and most recently Apples Never Fall, Based On A True Story and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The actor is repped by Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment.
Athari was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2021-2022. He also starred on HBO’s Silicon Valley. He recently starred in Molli and Max in the Future opposite Zosia Mamet that premiered at SXSW and in the indie comedy film The French Italian opposite Cat Cohen and Chloe Cherry, that premiered at Tribeca this year. He formed the comedy group “Goatface,” along with Hasan Minhaj, Asif Ali, and Fahim Anwar. Athari starred in, directed, and co-wrote a comedy special with the group, which aired on Comedy Central. He can currently be seen on Season 3 of Max’s Hacks. Athari is represented by CAA and Stride Management.
Clement is best known from the comedic folk band Flight of the Conchords who went on to have their own HBO series. He starred recently in Avatar: The Way of Water and can be seen next in Sony’s Harold & The Purple Crayon. He created and executive produces the comedy series Wellington Paranormal (CW/HBO Max), as well as What We Do In The Shadows (FX/Hulu). He is currently writing and executive producing the upcoming AppleTV+ series Time Bandits, based on Terry Gilliam’s 1981 film. Clement is represented by UTA and Yorn Levine.
Alvarez will next be seen starring, show running, and producing FX’s new comedy English Teacher debuting on Sept. Alvarez created the YouTube digital series The Gay And Wondrous Life Of Caleb Gallo, which was nominated for a 2016 IFP Gotham Independent Film Award for “Breakthrough Series – Short Form,” and has resulted in a deal with Lionsgate to develop the series for TV. Alvarez’s other credits include the feature film Everything Is Free, in which he directed, produced, and starred in, as well as CW’s Jane The Virgin, Netflix’s comedy Grace and Frankie, Epix’s Jayson, the Netflix comedy series Special, and his breakout role in NBC’s Will & Grace reboot. Alvarez is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, Ziffren Brittenham, and Narrative.
Van Epps will be seen next in a recurring role opposite Lisa Kudrow in Time Bandits. She previously starred as “Nicole”, the ex-wife of John Cho’s character, in the Amazon feature Don’t Make Me Go. Additional credits include the Hulu feature No Exit, the Apple TV+ series Mr. Corman, the Netflix series Cowboy Bebop and the Amazon series The Wilds. Van Epps is represented by Echo Lake Entertainment, Navigation Media Group, New Zealand’s Gail Cowan Management and Ziffren Brittenham.
