We sat down with Ludwig on the set of State Farm’s Gamerhood show to quiz the streaming star about the wildest things he’s done for charity and what it’s like finally switching to multistreaming.
State Farm is teaming up with some of the internet’s biggest personalities for the fourth season of Gamerhood, its annual competition show that pits streamers against one another in a series of challenges for charity.
This season, influencers like Ludwig, Mark Phillips, Berleezy and more will be playing some of today’s most popular games, such as Marvel Rivals and Fortnite, to win over $100K for charities of their choice.
They’re not just facing off in the virtual world, though; these content creators are also hashing it out IRL in a gauntlet of physical challenges that combine both brains and brawn.
Ludwig is returning to Gamerhood for the third time to test his gamer skills against his peers. We got the chance to chat with him on set, where we picked his brain about switching to multistreaming and what it’s like being part of such a massive charitable endeavor.
Ludwig reflects on his wildest charity stunts
Ludwig has undergone a slew of self-imposed challenges for a good cause. For instance, in 2022, he trapped himself inside a glass box for 50 hours to raise $100,000 for two charities: Alveus Sanctuary and No Kid Hungry.
The stream, which he dubbed the ‘Subathon 2.0,’ went viral and ended up raising over $300K for the organizations, putting Ludwig in a variety of hilarious situations like getting a bowl cut and forcing him to wear a clown suit.
We quizzed the streamer about the craziest thing he’s ever done for charity, Gamerhood included — and while it wasn’t trapping himself in a box for hours on end, it was an equally grueling experience.
“I played through all of Rock Band,” he told us. “I played every song in Rock Band. It took like 12 hours to raise money for the LA wildfires. We ended up raising a quarter-million, which is really cool. It was tough, because we had a wheel to punish ourselves.
“I ate the most horrendous things and played Rock Band songs and sang them at a horrible rate. But I ended up raising a lot, which was cool.”
For Ludwig, dedicating time and money to benefit charitable causes is important. The streamer told us that he enjoys doing yearly fundraisers, such as participating in Gamerhood and organizing the Streamer Games, where some of Twitch’s top broadcasters competed in track and field events.
“We’re gonna continue to do big events,” he assured us. “I still want to do stuff like the Streamer Games, which we did last year. I really like Fast 50, which we did last year. I want to do a new event this year, to be honest.”
Why Ludwig switched to multistreaming
Our chat with Ludwig came just after he switched to multi-streaming on YouTube and Twitch, something he was previously cautious of before making the jump. We asked him about this decision, which he said was a little “weird” for him.
“I think multi-streaming is weird,” he admitted. “I don’t know exactly what the best thing is, and I don’t think it’s necessarily consistent from person to person, but the VOD service on Twitch is kind of butt, and it got worse.
“When you stream on YouTube, it’s like a catalog forever, which is really convenient, and I think more viewers are becoming aware of that and using that feature. I don’t even necessarily stream on YouTube for the added viewership of it, but I do stream on it for the bonus of that VOD being instantly accessible, which I think a lot of people like.”
Luckily for Ludwig, Gamerhood is being streamed on both YouTube and Twitch, which viewers can watch every Friday in August at 6 PM ET, starting on August 1.
All five episodes will stream on the State Farm Twitch channel, YouTube, and across the competitors’ own streaming channels.
