EXCLUSIVE: LuckyChap and Indian Paintbrush have teamed to option rights to Olivia Gatwood’s debut novel Whoever You Are, Honey. It will publish via The Dial Press in July 2024.
Gatwood is also set to adapt her book into a feature script.
Whoever You Are, Honey takes place on the Santa Cruz waterfront and centers on a young woman and her elderly roommate, an oddball pair who are the last vestiges of a town taken over by the tech elite. But when a new couple moves in next door, the young woman’s once secluded existence is irrevocably disrupted, and she is forced to face the fact that on the outskirts of Silicon Valley, nothing is off-limits, and what was once considered dystopia is now a reality in her own backyard. Described as being in the spirit of Stepford Wives meets Grey Gardens for the age of artificial intelligence, Whoever You Are, Honey is billed as being prescient in its dissection of relationships between women, unpacking perfection and desirability, and exploding the intersection of passion, technology, and power.
LuckyChap and Indian Paintbrush most recently collaborated on their Sundance hit, My Old Ass, directed by Megan Park, which is currently 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and sold to Amazon MGM Studios for $15M.
Originally from Albuquerque, Olivia Gatwood is the author of two poetry collections, New American Best Friend and Life of the Party, and the co-writer of the upcoming feature project, The Governesses.
Indian Paintbrush is behind Wes Anderson’s movie canon, i.e. Asteroid City and the Oscar-winning Budapest Hotel. LuckyChap is behind such Oscar winning movies as I, Tonya, the multi-BAFTA nominated movie-turned Prime Video hit Saltburn, and Warner Bros.’ highest grossing movie of all-time, Barbie ($1.44 billion worldwide), which is up for eight Oscar noms this year including Best Picture.
LuckyChap is represented by Entertainment 360, CAA and Attorney Jeff Bernstein.
Gatwood is repped by Entertainment 360, CAA, Stuart Krichevsky Literary Agency, Inc. and Granderson Des Rochers.
