MUSICAL group Us The Duo has revealed that their marriage is over after being together for over a decade.
The band is made up of Michael and Carissa Alvarado who met in Los Angeles in 2011.
They were both on the set of a music video for fellow musical artist AJ Rafael.
The couple got married in 2012, and they have one child together, a daughter named Xyla who was born in 2018.
Us The Duo appeared on Season 13 of America’s Got Talent in 2018 where they became semifinalists.
On Thursday, the couple dropped the news of their divorce in an Instagram post featuring a photo of them with their daughter.
The duo started the post by announcing they will be releasing new singles, remixes, medleys, and Christmas music in the upcoming year.
In the next paragraph, they announced that they are “no longer married” although they “still have so much love for each other.”
They weren’t specific with their timeline, but they’ve been living separately for “quite some time now.”
The message also mentioned that their daughter has adjusted to the changes and her new normal.
Us The Duo made sure to include a message to their fans, “The message, the feelings, and the love in our past music will always be our truth for that time in our lives and we hope you’ll continue to cherish the music and your memories attached to it for eternity.”
Fans were then encouraged to follow Michael and Carissa’s personal Instagram accounts.
Their message concluded, “Thank you for all your support over the past 12 years. We love you all so much.”
Although the comments on the original post are turned off, that didn’t stop fans from moving to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their disappointment.
One said, “US THE DUO GOT DIVORCED??????????? My 15-year-old self is having a breakdown right now please do not text.”
“US THE DUO BROKE UP LOVE DOES NOT EXIST,” added another with crying emojis.
A third wrote, “What do you mean Us The Duo divorced and is no longer a duo???!?”
“Us The Duo getting divorced might be the most upsetting celebrity breakup yet,” commented a fan.
INDIVIDUAL MESSAGES
Michael shared the post to his personal Instagram Story with the message, “One chapter might be ending, but the book is far from over.
“So many new pages to write together as a musical duo and as co-parents.”
He also announced that he was flying home to visit his parents after an “incredibly tough” few months.
The next picture on his Story showed him in an Uber with tears streaming down his face as he shared a message about grief.
He said, “This is a good reminder to all those who are grieving something.
“It comes in waves. Currently riding an unexpected one right now.”
Finally, he posted a snap with his daughter giving her credit for helping him heal after the separation.
The end of the post said, “On the first week of separation, Xyla laid her head on my chest and we cried for 2.5 hours straight.
“It will forever be one of the most important moments of my life.”
Carissa didn’t make any additional comments other than sharing the original post to her personal Instagram Story.
The last time she posted a photo with Michael was 37 weeks ago when they attended a wedding together.
