The latest Loch Ness Monster sighting, which was captured on camera by a tourist, is spurring on a massive search for the creature taking place next month. The search, organized by the Loch Ness Centre, will take place between May 22 and May 25.

Annette Harkins from East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire was visiting the loch recently when spotted something unusual in the fabled waters. Using her binoculars, she says she saw a dark grey shape break the surface of the water then dive back down.

“I was using binoculars at first for a short time. I’d seen the waves change so I kept looking, and I’d seen a few bubbles in a wave that caught my attention,” the Mirror reports Harkins said. “Then I’d seen a shape – grey, dark like – was moving, so I took my mobile out and caught a slight picture of the object. Then it went underwater and did not emerge back up.”

She actually captured the image (which can be viewed here) on March 2, but it only came to light after she shared it with the Loch Ness Centre.

The Loch Ness Centre in Drumnadrochit tells the Mirror that Harkins was standing on the shore near Urquhart Castle when she believes she spotted the Loch Ness Monster.

“The observer, initially using binoculars, described a dark grey shape lurking beneath the surface water, blowing bubbles,” they reported. “Then, briefly surfacing above the water before quickly submerging seconds later. The observer was able to capture a picture following several disturbances in the water before whatever was lurking quickly disappeared.”

This was at least the second recorded sighting of the Monster in the month of March. Another sighting took place when a man captured video off of a webcam.

Another sighting that was reported in March involved a visitor to Dores Beach. That sighting was also reviewed by the Loch Ness Centre, which called it the “first significant sighting of the year.”

“We’ve had numerous observations over the years, but this recent sighting has been particularly captivating. The conditions on the day of this sighting were absolutely perfect,” Loch Ness Centre general manager Nagina Ishaq told the Mirror. “This could very well be our first significant sighting of the year, further fueling the mystery surrounding Loch Ness and its most famous resident.”

Because of these and other sightings, this will be the third year in a row the Loch Ness Centre has organized a massive search for the Loch Ness Monster.

“Following the second possible sighting, this will further fuel the mystery surrounding Loch Ness and its most famous resident and will only inspire more people to look out over the water in the hope of spotting something unexplainable,” Ishaq told the Daily Record.
