A recent South Park episode took a playful jab at Lizzo, sparking an unexpected clapback from the pop queen.
On Friday, May 24, the long-running animated comedy series debuted its latest special, “The End of Obesity,” on Paramount+. The episode critiques the Ozempic craze and offers up Lizzo’s music as an alternative to the popular weight loss drug.
The special kicks off with South Park‘s Eric Cartman visiting his doctor to score some Ozempic for weight loss. When he finds out he can’t afford the drug and has no insurance coverage, the doctor suggests an alternative.
“I’m going to write you a prescription for Lizzo,” Eric’s doctor explains. “She’s a really good singer who talks about body positivity, and just being happy with the way you look. I want you to listen to Lizzo five times a day, and watch her videos just before bedtime. I’m afraid you’ll have to be on Lizzo for the rest of your life.”
Lizzo Reacts to ‘South Park’ Name Dropping Her
Later, the South Park episode gets even more on the nose with roasting Lizzo. The scene in question is what Lizzo herself decidedly to respond to, a supposedly blind reaction video on her TikTok.
In the footage, Sharon Marsh strolls through the park with Sheila Broflovski, praising the “new drugs” she was prescribed as “pretty amazing.” Marsh admitted she once felt “ashamed” of herself for lacking the “willpower” to exercise and eat less to lose weight.
Marsh explained that her doctor couldn’t prescribe Ozempic or Mounjaro because her insurance wouldn’t cover it, as she doesn’t have Type II Diabetes. However, the medical professional mentioned a new obesity drug for those who couldn’t afford the celebrity-loved medication.
“I’ve controlled all my cravings to be thinner with Lizzo,” Marsh explained. Meanwhile, this is when Lizzo’s draw dropped to the floor in her reaction video.
The clip switched to a commercial for the “once-weekly diet suppressor,” praised for its “reduced standards and expectations” about weight. The ad mentioned that case studies showed 70% of Lizzo patients no longer care about their weight.
They also appeared to criticize the renowned rapper, alleging that the drug enables users to “eat everything” they want” while minimizing physical activity.
Meanwhile, Lizzo’s eyes widened and she covered her mouth with her hand as the footage played on.
“Stop listening to Lizzo if you experience suicidal thoughts,’ the parody commercial continued. “Serious side effects include pancreatitis, hypothermia [and pooping] out your ears.”
“That’s crazy,” Lizzo exclaimed after stopping the South Park footage. “I just feel like, damn, ‘I’m really that b–h.”’
However, the “Good as Hell” singer saw nothing but positives in the clip.
“I really showed the world how to love yourself and not give a f–k to a point where these men in Colorado [South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone] know who the f–k I am and put it on their cartoon that’s been around for 25 years.”
She added, “I’m really that bitch and I’ll show y’all how to not give a f–k and I’m going to keep on showing you how to not give a f–k.”
Lizzo even seemed to enjoy the jingle in the mock ad from South Park. “Oh, oh Lizzooo, b–h,” she sang as her TikTok post ended.
