Lizzo Breaks Silence On What She Meant By ‘I Quit’

Lizzo has clarified her thoughts after she told fans “I Quit” last week. 

The singer shared a new video in which she explained that her declaration had nothing to do with exiting the music industry but clearing her space of negativity.

On Friday, March 29, Lizzo put out a statement on social media asserting that she was getting fed up with “being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” adding, “I Quit.” 

Naturally, the post caused a ruckus amongst her fans, with many pleading with her not to give up her career and take a break from making music instead.

Following that reaction, the “About D—Time” hitmaker uploaded another post detailing what she actually meant by her initial announcement. 

Donning a blue one-piece swimsuit and a face glam matching the outfit, Lizzo began, “When I say ‘I quit,’ I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention.” She continued saying:

“What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music and connecting to people, and I know I’m not alone. In no way, shape, or form, am I the only person experiencing that negative voice that’s louder than the positive.”

The Grammy Awards winner then left a message for her fans, stating, “If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves and say they quit letting negative people, negative comments, win then I’ve done even more than I could’ve hoped for.”

“I’m going to keep moving forward and keep being me,” Lizzo wrapped up the clip, which came with a single red heart emoji in the caption.

The news immediately warmed the hearts of her supporters and over 14k of them flooded the comment section with their excitement.

While one person commented, “Yesss!!! The industry needs Lizzo!” alongside a pink heart emoji, another claimed, “Your music brings me so much joy and empowerment, Lizzo. please never quit.”

A third fan encouraged, “Girl, don’t care about them!! You’re amazing,” a fourth penned, “Seriously, I was literally worried. cus ma’am you make bangers!!! Why quit that?” and a fifth added, “I’m so happy to hear this Lizzo – you’re such a huge inspiration.”

Actor and singer, Terrell Carter also stepped into the comments to lengthily describe express:

“I’m behind you 100 percent! Been there and I know the feeling. But remember most of the time it’s people that don’t have the courage to go over their dreams that have so much to say about you and yours.! Live your life the way that you want the best when you can. Keep inspiring people. I’m behind you because you’re definitely inspiring me.”

When Lizzo seemingly announced her departure from making music, The Blast reported that she touched on a variety of issues. 

For starters, she noted that even though all she wanted to do was “make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better” than she “found it,” she had learned a bitter lesson.

That lesson laid in her “starting to feel like the world” did not want her in it due to the “lies being told about me for clout & views.”

The 35-year-old also pointed to “people who don’t know me” continuously making fun of her being plus-size while picking her character and actions apart.

“I didn’t sign up for this s—, I QUIT,” she emphasized at the end of the message. As already mentioned, the post brought her fans out in their numbers begging her to keep making music. 

One person emphatically wrote, “Man FK them!!!!! I was telling the same, the only decision is to say F them,” and a second maintained, “Just ignore them. They mean nothing.”
