Popular drink company Lipton Ice Tea has left everyone confused after posting a bizarre April Fools’ joke way too early.
Each year, on the first day of April, companies across the internet take to their social media platforms to share their latest April Fools’ joke to market their brand.
Some jokes go extremely viral across platforms, like Little Caesar’s corncob pizza back in 2023 which even featured various influencers trying the bizarre pizza.
Jokes are often posted a few days before April Fools’ Day, but a series of posts from Lipton Ice Tea left fans of the popular drink simply confused.
Lipton ‘discontinues’ its most popular flavor in bizarre joke
In a post on Tuesday, March 18, Lipton Ice Tea shared that its iconic Peach flavor was being discontinued.
“You may have heard that our iconic Peach Lipton Ice Tea flavor is getting discontinued,” they said in the post. “We know – it hurts (sorry if we’ve ruined your go-to afternoon chill bev).
“But don’t worry, the rest of your faves are still here to keep you refreshed. And who knows? Maybe one day, Peach will make a legendary comeback. We appreciate your understanding during this period of adjustment and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Fans immediately flocked to the comments to share their confusion, with many hoping it was an early April Fools’ joke.
“How tf does a company discontinue arguably its best-seller,” one user said.
Another commented: “Lipton this better be a joke for April 1st.”
Luckily for fans of the flavor, Lipton posted the next day that it was an April Fools’ Day joke.
“Oops, is it still March?” they said. “Got my dates mixed up… thought it was April Fools already! I’d never take away your favorite flavor, pookies. Your love for Peach has not gone unnoticed. But I’ve got your back, I will be sending a surprise to the biggest fans with the best reactions.”
News of the April Fools’ joke made its way over to X, where many users called out the brand for doing it so early.
“April fools? We’re in March.. and it’s the 19th,” one user commented.
Another said: “It’s March 19th who’s dumb*ss idea was this.”
Lipton isn’t the first brand to joke about changing their most popular product for April Fools’ Day, as Red Lobster replaced its famous Cheddar Bay Biscuits with breadsticks back in 2024.
