Lionel Richie is one happy dad.
The 73-year-old American Idol judge just celebrated his daughter Sofia Richie getting married to Elliot Grainge in a lavish ceremony in France.
Fortunately, Lionel didn’t have to worry about or even vet his new son-in-law because he has known Elliot for a very long time.

“This is [my] baby girl,” Lionel told ET. “All I can say to you is, for every dad that’s ever been this way or getting ready to experience it, it is a humbling time in your life. Because you’re handing one of the loves of your life away.”
“But really, I’ll tell you a story, I’ve known Elliot since he was 9,” Lionel said. “So interestingly enough, I didn’t have to vet the kid. I know who he is!”
“I love him,” Lionel said of Elliot. “I love them. So it was really great.”
Lionel, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year, has known Elliot‘s father, Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge, for a very long time.
“I mean, I was crying. It was it was a great ceremony,” Lionel said of the wedding. “I love that it was one of those moments I will never, ever forget.”
