Terry revealed he was up until 4:30am on June 15 when he was involved in the crash on Interstate 57 in Illinois.

The accident came after a one-off reunion concert held at the State Farm Center in honor of REO Speedwagon.

Terry joined the iconic band back in 1968 and was the frontman for four years before he left in 1972.

He returned for the major event and was met by rapturous applause by fans of the group.

An afterparty saw the celebrations go late into the night with Terry recalling feeling sleepy as he signed countless autographs for fans.

Despite the time, he decided to drive to St. Louis where he was due to attend another event the day after.

But as he got behind the wheel, Terry recalled nodding off before waking up to an almighty smash as his car flipped over.

Terry told News-Gazette after the crash: “It just happened. I nodded off.

“I rolled the car over, and I woke up, and I was in a cocoon.

“Unfortunately, it totaled the car.”

He was left with a cracked sternum and quickly rushed to the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana for treatment.

Terry is still bedbound and receiving medical care.

He continued: “I was able to get up and get out of the car.

“I have a little back pain and neck pain. It’s nothing that can’t be overcome.”

Terry, who also performed as part of Starcastle, did say the crash provided him with a funny story as he was being helped in hospital.

Some of the nurses who gave him treatment in the aftermath of the accident also attended the concert the night before, the rockstar said.

Terry’s departure from REO Speedwagon came after a dispute with guitarist Gary Richrath.

The veteran musician found fame with the rock group despite Speedwagon going on to huge heights after Terry left.

Kevin Cronin came in as the lead singer and helped the band create hits like “Keep On Loving You” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling”.

Both managed to top the Billboard charts.
