LCD Soundsystem Might Not Have New Album by Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025, Festival Clarifies

A new LCD Soundsystem album appears to be around the corner—or so it briefly seemed. After returning this week with their first song in two years, “X-Ray Eyes,” James Murphy and the band were announced as performers at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025. A press release for the festival included the following excerpt:

All my friends. If this is a celebration, then let’s embrace LCD Soundsystem’s All My Friends as the official anthem of Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025. Almost twenty years after giving the world this dance-rock ode to friendship, the influential band led by James Murphy will come back to the festival (and with a new album!) to make it clear that, although they are an inherent part of our best memories, their time is always now.

Multiple publications, including Pitchfork, reported the news of the album. After representatives for LCD Soundsystem offered no comment on a potential American Dream follow-up, representatives for Primavera Sound shared a new statement about the band’s appearance at the festival:

James Murphy’s band will not present a new album at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025 but will return to the festival welcomed as a major headliner act after their new song X-Ray Eyes and of course with their impressive and influential collection of anthems.

“X-Ray Eyes” premiered Tuesday on NTS Radio DJ Anu’s show (listen from the 19:40 mark at the link), marking their first release since “New Body Rhumba,” from the White Noise movie. That aside, the band has mostly been playing residencies—in New York, London, Boston, and Philadelphia—as well as various festival dates. Its sole longer release since American Dream was Electric Lady Sessions.
