‘Last Airbender’ And ‘Korra’ Get New ‘Seven Havens’ Avatar Sequel

Aang from Avatar: the Last Airbender

Nickelodeon

It’s happening. The avatar is returning. It’s been over a decade since Avatar: The Legend of Korra wrapped up on Nickelodeon and now Nick is bring the Avatar world back with Avatar: Seven Havens.

Nickelodeon announced Avatar: Seven Havens in a press release today, providing specifics on the show and who is involved. For starters, the new avatar will be an earthbender and they will inhabit a deeply different world from the time of Aang and Korra.

For those that watched Legend of Korra, you may be wondering ‘didn’t the cycle of avatars end with Korra?’ and to that the answer is ‘that specific line of avatars ended. Korra didn’t entirely lose her Raava, her spirit of light and peace, and thus avatars can continue. What happened though is the splicing of the line of avatars, so Aang, and all of the avatars before him will be unable to help the new avatars going forward in the same way that Aang was helped by avatars like Kiyoshi and Roku.

Moving on… Seven Havens!!

In the press release, Nickelodeon announced Avatar: Seven Havens will be a 26-episode 2-D series which takes place in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender… But things have changed, a lot.

What Will ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ Be About?

This glimpse into what Avatar: Seven Havens will be like immediately reminds me of Season 2’s ‘Winter Solstice, Part 1: The Spirit World’ when Aang was stuck in the spirit world. The press release reads:

Avatar: Seven Havens is set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

All The Right Pieces Are In Place

The timing of this announcement is special as the first episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted on February 21, 2005, a cool 20 years ago tomorrow. Time flies!! But they’re getting the proverbial band back together for Seven Havens.

The show’s original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are behind this. They will be the ones bringing this show to life under the Avatar Studios banner which is also working on a yet-to-be-named Aang movie that will premiere in theaters next January.

Ultimately, as fun as the live-action Airbender show as on Netflix time appears to have shown that the show didn’t have much staying power… At least not within the Avatar-fandom world. Similarly, fans are excited to move from the Korra series. But will this dark new take on the avatar world be great? We’ll learn more in the coming months.
