Actress Keke Palmer has defended her decision to interview disgraced actor Jonathan Majors on her Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast. Despite recording the interview, however, Palmer never released it.
In December 2023, Jonathan Majors was convicted of two misdemeanor counts for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Jabbari also later filed a lawsuit against Majors claiming that he defamed her during a Good Morning America interview following his guilty conviction in which he said he “never laid [his] hands on a woman.”
Following his conviction, Majors has essentially fallen out of Hollywood, as he has not appeared in a movie since 2023.
Despite his tenuous standing in pop culture, Palmer decided to interview Majors for her podcast earlier this year and recently defended the decision.
“I’m here to be unbiased. You don’t agree with everything they did, you don’t love everything, but you got to have the conversation. You have to set the stage for them to speak and for people to watch and take what they want to take from it, so that’s why I was open and excited to do the interview… I sat down with the brother for us to talk and let him be heard,” Palmer explained on New York’s popular The Breakfast Club radio show.
“I mean, people sit down with serial killers. I’m not comparing him to a serial killer. At the end of the day, I felt as a journalist, I’m supposed to talk and let the public decide how they want to feel. But that didn’t get a chance to happen. I wish them all the best. I really want to say that because I don’t judge nobody because I don’t want to be judged… Maybe one day, we get a chance to put [the podcast interview] out. I’m not sure.”
Palmer also mentioned that Meghan Good, who recently married Jonathan Majors, is “her girl” and that she was “happy” for her to get married to Majors.
Prior to his arrest, Majors was one of the most promising young actors in Hollywood thanks to his performances in projects such as The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Da 5 Bloods, The Harder They Fall, Lovecraft Country, and Creed III.
