Keith Urban supposedly did not hang up on a pair of Australian radio hosts when they asked about Nicole Kidman and her intimate on-camera moments with Zac Efron. I believe it, but somebody did!
Why not own up to it?
The country music singer (through his team) is choosing not to clarify what happened. Their approach to the entire situation allows it to be blown way out of proportion for no reason.
This hilariously unimportant drama started on Tuesday morning.
Keith Urban called into an interview with Hayley & Max in the Morning, which airs on Mix 102.3 in his home country of Australia. They talked for approximately 15 minutes before things got awkward. Max Buford and Hayley Pearson introduced a game called ‘Wall of Truth.’
The concept is very simple. They ask their guests a “very tricky” and “deeply personal” question in an effort to get a juicy response. Some people choose to answer. They are often asked to move on.
In this specific instance, the question related to Nicole Kidman.
When I was coming up with something to ask you, Keith Urban, if you happen to play this game, the first thing I thought of, with your beautiful wife Nicole Kidman being on so many great movies, TV shows all the time… I watched a movie with her and Zac Efron recently, A Family Affair.
— Max Buford
At first, Urban was on board. He responded politely.
Oh yeah, that’s a good one.
— Keith Urban
And then Buford hit him with the kicker.
I thought, “What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having these beautiful loves scenes on TV and radio?”
— Max Buford
Both radio hosts waited for a response that never came. Keith Urban disconnected from Zoom. He did not try to rejoin. He was not heard from again. That was it. Goodbye!
Pearson was not surprised because Urban “doesn’t like the personal stuff.” Buford was confused because Urban was “smiling” on the call while he asked his question. And yet, he was gone.
Media outlets all over the internet immediately ran with the narrative that Keith Urban hung up on the call because of the question about his wife’s on-camera relationship with co-workers. It made him angry so he dropped. That was a topic he was not interested in discussion. The entire conversation was over.
However, a source told People that Urban is a “very easygoing” interviewee and took no issue with the question about Kidman.
Keith did not hang up, period. He doesn’t host his Zoom interviews. This is a complete nothingburger.
— A source told People
I actually believe this. I don’t think it was Keith Urban who hung up. But somebody did hang up so it is not a “nothingburger.” His people — whomever it was that closed out the Zoom call — probably thought they were doing him a favor by protecting him from such a raunchy question. They actually made him look worse.
And if that was not awkward enough, a representative for Urban chose not to comment on the radio show interaction so the whole thing is left open-ended. This entire interaction became something so much bigger than it needs to be because nobody is willing to explain what happened.
