Actor, director, musician, philanthropist, comic book writer, and now race car driver: Keanu Reeves is a modern-day Renaissance man.
This weekend, the beloved John Wick star will be making his professional racing debut as he enters as a “one-off” in the GR Cup field racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend.
While Reeves has competed in celebrity races before — he last appeared in a race in 2014 (coincidentally enough, the year the first John Wick came out) and won the celebrity class in the 2009 Toyota Pro/Celebrity race at the Long Beach Street Circuit — his participation in the Indianapolis 8 Hour this weekend will be his first professional race at the iconic track.
“Reeves will be behind the wheel of the No. 92 Eagles Canyon Racing Toyota GR86 during the GR Cup Series races scheduled for this weekend. While the races are part of the Indianapolis 8 Hour event, the cup races are separate from the eight-hour endurance race.”
“Reeves does enter his professional debut with some experience behind the wheel, having raced in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in the celebrity race. Reeve’s even came away victorious in 2009. The first GR Cup race at IMS is scheduled for 9:50 a.m. on Saturday with the second GR Cup race scheduled for 11:55 a.m. on Sunday.” [via Fox 59]
After starring in John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2023, Reeves took 2024 off from live-action roles, as he only appeared in a voice role as Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Reeves has a handful of interesting projects on the horizon.
Not only will he be featuring as John Wick in the Ana de Armas-starring spinoff Ballerina next summer, but he’s also starring in Good Fortune, directed by Aziz Ansari and co-starring Ansari, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh, and Outcome, directed by Jonah Hill and starring Hill and Cameron Diaz.
