Kate Middleton, who recently announced her cancer diagnosis, once made a very kind gesture by donating her hair to children battling the disease. Reports claim that the idea of donating came to her while she was getting a haircut at Kensington Palace.
After revealing her illness on Friday, Kate said she’s relying on her husband, Prince William, and their three kids as a “source of comfort.” She also thanked the public for their “love, support, and kindness” and has asked for time and privacy as she completes chemotherapy treatment.
Kate Middleton Donated Her Hair To Children Battling Cancer
In light of her recent shock cancer diagnosis, it is worth sharing how the kind princess once donated locks of her hair to children suffering from the disease.
The future queen reportedly chopped off seven inches of her own hair in 2018 to give to the Little Princess Trust, a nonprofit that provides youngsters with cancer treatment-related hair loss with lifelike wigs.
According to the Daily Mail, she is believed to have gotten the idea after getting a haircut at Kensington Palace from hairdresser Joey Wheeler.
A source at the time claimed, “Four months ago, Joey persuaded her it was time to take off some of her hair; he said it was just getting too long.”
They added, “While Joey was snipping away, the idea came to her of doing some good with it rather than throwing it away. She mentioned it to Joey, who thought it was a brilliant idea. It was sent using someone else’s name so that the trust didn’t know it was from a royal source – they just thought it was from a female donor in the Kensington area.”
The source further noted: “It’s lovely to think somewhere a little girl is happily wearing a wig made from a real princess’s hair. It’s a very heartwarming thing for Kate to have done, and very thoughtful to use hair that would have otherwise just been thrown away.”
The Princess Is Relying On Prince William For Comfort
After announcing her cancer diagnosis in an emotional video released on Friday, the princess further opened up about how her life has been.
In the video, Kate confirmed that she received the cancer diagnosis at the beginning of this year after her “planned abdominal surgery.”
The Princess of Wales further spoke about how she’s since relied on her husband, Prince William, as a “source of comfort” as she battles cancer.
She said, “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too.” Kate also mentioned their three kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, as her support systems as she undergoes chemotherapy.
Kate Middleton Thanks The Public For ‘The Love, Support, and Kindness’
Kate also addressed the public in her video, thanking them for “the love, support, and kindness” they have shown her despite her health issues.
Then she said, “We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space, and privacy while I complete my treatment.”
Kate also shared that she’s looking forward to resuming her Royal duties after beating cancer.
She said, “My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now, I must focus on making a full recovery.”
Kate wrapped up her video by encouraging others battling cancer to “not lose faith or hope” and be reassured by the fact that they “are not alone.”
Kate Middleton Was Previously Expected To Resume Duties By Easter
With the announcement of her cancer diagnosis, it’s possible that Kate might be out of the public eye for much longer than initially expected.
When she first went private in January, Kensington Palace released a statement saying that the princess was “unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
The palace reiterated this expected date in another statement released on February 29th, when tons of rumors about her health being more severe and Kate going missing spread online. As such, many fans speculated on social media that Kate’s first appearance post-surgery would be at the annual royal family Easter church outing. However, it’s not sure if that will still be the case.
Since then, Kate has only been spotted a few times in public, with most people speculating that the sightings were actually of body doubles. However, on Thursday, the palace revealed that she’s actually been working on some of her Royal duties and other projects from her home in Windsor with William and the kids.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Assures The Princess Of The Country’s Support
Shortly After Announcing Her Diagnosis, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sent a heartfelt statement to the princess, noting how brave she was by sharing such difficult news.
Sunak wrote, “My thoughts are with the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Royal Family, and in particular her three children in this difficult time. The Princess of Wales has the love and support of the whole country as she continues her recovery.”
The Prime Minister noted how “she has been subject to intense scrutiny and has been unfairly treated by certain sections of the media around the world and on social media.”
Concluding his message, Sunak said, “When it comes to matters of health, like everyone else, she must be afforded the privacy to focus on her treatment and with her loving family. I know I speak for the whole country in wishing her a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back in action when she’s ready.”
