Kate Martin is shooting hoops – in her exercise clothes. In a new social media post shared by the Las Vegas Aces the professional athlete shows off her shooting stance and fit figure while on the court. “Money Martin 🧪🔬,” the team captioned the Instagram snap. How does the WNBA star approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.
In her free time you can find Kate going for walks and exploring new places. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer in terms of exercise, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day led to a reduced risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.
Kate also enjoys hiking. Here she is at Hawn State Park. According to the National Parks Service, the physical benefits of hiking include:
- Building stronger muscles and bones
- Improving your sense of balance
- Improving your heart health
- Decreasing the risk of certain respiratory problems
Kate is a big fan of watersports, especially growing up in Florida. Here she is wakeboarding. “Celebrated the 4th the right way #merica,” she captioned an Instagram post. Wakeboarding is a combination of water skiing and surfing and definitely works the core and legs as balance is required.
While on vacation, Kate enjoys kayaking. Kayaking is a great workout. Not only is it great for building upper body strength and helps reduce stress, but can burn up to 400 calories per hour, translating to 1,600 calories in four hours of paddling.
Kate’s main form of fitness? Basketball, of course. “Basketball promotes speed, agility, strength, power and endurance. It [has] also been shown to increase flexibility and motor coordination. As a result, basketball is uniquely oriented to improve fundamental motor skills that are shown to be beneficial in promoting general health,” Koco Eaton, M.D., orthopedic surgeon, founder of Eaton Orthopaedics and a former basketball player, tells Nike.
