Today, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe have officially announced the Mason Diesel Line Tour. This new run is the acclaimed jam-jazz fusion ensemble’s first full-fledged tour since the Golden State Swing Tour in March, and will bring the idiosyncratic outfit to 12 shows spanning the Southeast in September. Denson’s latest dispatch arrives immediately in the wake of The Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds US Tour, with which Denson traveled as the band’s go-to saxophonist.
Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe will kick off its forthcoming tour from the heart of Music City, stopping in for a first show at Nashville, Tenn.’s Eastside Bowl. From this outset, the band will hike off to Asheville, N.C. for a headline set at Asheville, N.C.’s Boomtown Arts & Heritage FestAVL on Sept. 6, then double back to Tennessee for a Sept. 7 showing at Knoxville’s Bijou Theatre.
From Sept. 9-17, the group will plot 6 stops across Virginia and the Carolinas, including appearances at Richmond, Va.’s Broadberry on Sept. 10, Charlotte, N.C.’s Neighborhood Theatre on Sept. 12 and a headline spot at Charleston, S.C.’s Drifter Fest on Sept. 14. In its final sweep, the Mason Diesel Line Tour will bring the band to The Hamilton Live in Washington on Sept. 18, The Foundry in Waynesboro, Va. on Sept. 19 and one final festival set at the community relief-oriented Healing Appalachia Festival in Lewisburg, W.Va. on Sept. 20
Preceding his recent, widely celebrated stint with his Tiny Universe band, Denson earned his reputation in the jam scene as a top-tier flutist and saxophonist best known with The Greyboy Allstars, for which he was both a founding member and bandleader. Beyond his touring with The Rolling Stones, Denson has recorded and played with greats like Steve Winwood, Lenny Kravitz and Galactic’s Stanton Moore and toured with the Allman Brothers, Bob Weir and Parliament-Funkadelic, among others.
