Just one day after Kanye West‘s account was suspended by Instagram, the rapper’s Twitter account has been locked as well. On Friday, Oct. 7, West pivoted to Twitter to continue his social media rants. At first, his return to Twitter was praised by Elon Musk, who is in the process of purchasing the company, but by Sunday, his account had been locked due to what many have called out as an anti-Semitic tweet.
A Twitter spokesperson told POPSUGAR on Sunday, “The account in question has been locked due to a violation of Twitter’s policies.” This comes after West tweeted remarks that were called out as anti-Semitic over the weekend. The tweet in question, which has since been removed, read, “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE. The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.”
West posted similar messages on his Instagram prior to his account being suspended. POPSUGAR reached out to Instagram’s parent company, Meta, for comment on the suspension but did not receive an immediate response. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a Meta spokesperson confirmed that content from the rapper’s account was deleted and a restriction has been placed on it for an undetermined amount of time. Details on the content that was removed were not disclosed.
The American Jewish Committee shared a video compilation of West’s rants on Instagram on Saturday alongside information on why his posts and comments should not be taken lightly. “Kanye West‘s week has consisted of: Incoherent rants laden with racist and anti-Semitic undertones made on the country’s top cable news program. Anti-Jewish posts shared to his 18 million followers on Instagram. These posts are dangerous,” the AJC captioned the post.
West’s suspension comes after he spent much of last week launching allegations and digs at people on Instagram, including ex Kim Kardashian, former sister-in-law Khloé Kardashian, fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, and model Gigi Hadid, among others.
