Kai Cenat has voiced his frustrations with Twitch’s new change to VODs as he might lose over 500 hours of archived streams and highlights.
There have been a number of challengers to Twitch’s throne over the last few years, which has prompted the Amazon-owned platform to change up a few different features.
These innovations and tweaks haven’t always gone down well with streamers, both big and small. Such has been the fury at some of the proposed changes that Twitch has had to back peddle and scrap their work.
Their newest change revolves around VODs – Videos on Demand. While streamers had, previously, been allowed to have unlimited storage of past streams and highlights, Twitch will now be limiting them to 100 hours.
Twitch’s VOD change frustrates Kai Cenat
This change has been met with much backlash already. In particular, speedrunners have threatened to move over to YouTube to avoid having their achievements disappear as a result.
Kai Cenat is also unhappy with the change. “Wait, chat, I ain’t gon lie, it says my storage is filled?” he said during his Batman stream, baffled by the news. “Bro, what? Why does VODs have storage?
“What? No! Hold on bro, nah, they snapping bro. What is they doing? Gang, they put the limit for highlights and uploads at 100 hours only. I have 561 hours’ worth of footage! Why did they just?”
Like many top streamers, Kai uploads a lot of his streams to YouTube so that fans can access them over there. However, YouTube will strike videos down for playing copyrighted music and content, which is something Kai does often.
Twitch, instead, will mute the VOD when music is being played.
Given the backlash towards the change, the Amazon-owned platform might be forced into a rethink. Though, we’ll have to wait and see if that happens.
