A man’s decision to wear a “World’s Best Farter” shirt to court didn’t pass the Judge’s smell test in an outrageous courtroom moment.
When you’re in court, it’s typically a good idea to dress formally, and as one man learned the hard way, graphic t-shirts aren’t exactly the best idea.
On June 9, defendant Sammy Morris appeared in front of Jefferson County Judge Raquel West in a stream posted to the 252nd District Court’s YouTube page.
In the footage, Judge West called Morris forward and had some choice words for the man’s attire.
Man’s “World’s Best Farter” shirt infuriates Texas Judge
After Morris made his way in front of Judge West, she began to question his clothing.
“Good morning, sir. What made you think that was a good shirt to wear to court this morning?” she asked. “That’s all you could find? That’s the only shirt you had in your closet? World’s best farter – that’s great.”
The man pointed out that the shirt had “farter” crossed out with, “I mean, Father” underneath at the bottom, but the judge wasn’t having any of it.

“You’re in felony court. You need to dress appropriately for felony court and that’s not appropriate.”
Judge West further took issue with the man not having an attorney present and didn’t like the man’s excuse about calling three lawyers before showing up in court, but none of them got back to him.
“You need to get someone hired, or you need to actually talk to three lawyers,” she said. “If you have to call 20 to get that done, then call 20. These are just normal, common sense things, right?”
She further warned him to get his act together or next time his bond will be revoked and he’ll end up going to jail.
This isn’t the only weird courtroom fiasco to make headlines this year. Earlier in 2025, a man’s attempt to use an AI avatar in the New York State Supreme Court went awry when a judge yelled across the courtroom to pull the plug.
