After spending the last few years establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s most promising A-list actors, Jonathan Majors’ career could now be on the verge of collapse.
In convicted on the charges he’s facing for an alleged assault, Majors could face a maximum prison sentence of 12 months.
Earlier this week, Majors appeared in court for the second time due to the charges against him, which stem from an alleged incident in late March that saw the 33-year-old arrested and charged with assault, strangulation, and harassment.
During his most recent court appearance, Majors — who must be back in court on June 13 — maintained his innocence.
“We have provided the District Attorney (D.A.) with irrefutable evidence that the woman is lying, including video proof showing nothing happened, especially not where she claimed. We did this with the explicit promise from the D.A. that they would not ‘fix’ their case and change it as we proved the woman is lying,” Majors’ attorney said in a statement following the Tuesday court appearance.
“Yet this false case continues, the woman’s claimed location shifts and her story morphs. This is a witch hunt against Jonathan Majors, driven by baseless claims. Instead of dismissing the allegations in the face of the woman’s clear lies, the D.A. has adjusted the charges to match the woman’s new lies.”
Over the last few years, Majors has rapidly ascended to the mountaintop of Hollywood thanks to performances in projects such as Lovecraft Country, Loki, Da 5 Bloods, Hostiles, White Boy Rick, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, The Harder They Fall, and Devotion.
Most recently, Majors appeared in two high-profile 2023 films as he starred as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and as the main antagonist opposite Michael B. Jordan in Creed III.
His role of Kang, in particular, is a massive one as the character is being positioned as the franchise’s next “big bad”, similar to the role Josh Brolin’s Thanos played during the Infinity Saga. The difference, however, is that Kang’s multiversal nature made it so that he was set to appear in multiple upcoming projects, such as season two of the Disney+ series Loki and the 2025 film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Given that Marvel Studios has yet to make an official statement regarding Majors’ legal issues, they’re likely waiting for an official verdict to make a decision on his future in the MCU.
