Actor and musician John Stamos (“Full House”) spoke with members of the media on the red carpet of the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Stamos was there to induct his longtime friend, Mike Love, the co-founder of The Beach Boys. The induction ceremony was held at the Marriott Marquis in New York City’s Times Square.
Stamos on honoring Mike Love at the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame
On honoring Mike Love at the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame, Stamos expressed, “It’s the greatest honor of my life! I’ve had a lot of great things happen in my life, but this is the best!”
“This honor is so well-deserved. He has been overlooked in the Songwriters Hall of Fame for a while, and now, I am glad that they came around,” Stamos acknowledged.
Stamos on the meaning and power of songwriting
Stamos opened up about the meaning and power of songwriting. “I’m not much of a songwriter but being around two of the greatest songwriters ever (Mike Love and Brian Wilson), I am just in awe of it,” Stamos said.
“This honor was so long overdue for Mike Love. Being able to present Mike Love with this award is such an amazing honor. Mike is a songwriter’s songwriter, and he has deserved this award for so long,” he explained.
Stamos remembers the late Brian Wilson
Stamos took the time to fondly remember the late Rock and Roll and Songwriters Hall of Famer Brian Wilson.
“Brian Wilson was a genius, and he was the most creative and incredible human that ever played a note, so Mike Love got stuck in the shadows a little over there,” Stamos noted.
“Brian would be the first to tell you what a great songwriter Mike Love is, and that Mike wrote those amazing lyrics and hooks,” he exclaimed.
“Mike painted a cinematic tableau of California that made the whole world want to be us… We were optimism, positivity, love, joy, and good vibes. To be able to play these songs every night is incredible,” Stamos admitted.
“Without Brian Wilson, life would be a mistake,” he noted. “I don’t know what this world would have been like without him. I am not excited to see what it’s going to be like now that he’s gone although his music will obviously live on and on,” he elaborated.

Greek heritage
On his Greek heritage, Stamos exclaimed, “I am a proud Greek American. One of the greatest memories of my life was bringing my parents on tour with The Beach Boys; they always insisted I bring them along, so it has been great.”
“My parents were from the village of Kakouri, near the city of Tripoli. I did a couple of shows where they trace your ancestry, and they traced it back there,” he revealed.
Stamos is a firm believer that the Greek American community in the United States is still tight knit. “The Greek American community is great,” he underscored.
“We sort of have a ‘Greek mafia’ in Los Angeles, and we just got together for Greek Easter,” he exclaimed. “These Greeks include Jim Gianopulos, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Michael Chiklis, Nia Vardalos, Maria Menounos, and Ted Sarandos. We are strong Greeks!”
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Stamos revealed, “If You Would Have Told Me.”
Ironically enough, that is the title of his memoir, which was released back in the fall of 2023.
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, Stamos responded, “Being here [at the Songwriters Hall of Fame] talking to you!”
