Netflix / John Mulaney
There is a very specific type of person who is going to love the video below where the four members of Phish cosplay as the four main characters from Seinfeld and I am admittedly very much that specific type of person. While in Los Angeles for their recent 3-night stint at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Phish used some down time to meet up with John Mulaney.
This was for the latest episode of Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney and Mulaney is an admitted Phish fan, or at least he’s been to their concerts in the past and shared that with Pitchfork back in 2023. So to meet the band must have been a cathartic moment for him, especially when he got the 4 guys to agree to cosplay as Seinfeld characters.
The clip hit Netflix overnight and is already spreading like wildfire among the Phish community:
These bros still know how to have fun. Trey and Fishman are now 60, Page is 61, and Mike Gordon is 59. They are no longer spring chickens.
Also, they are exceedingly wealthy. Trey Anastasio’s estimated net worth is around $85 million but likely much higher as the band rakes in well over a million dollars per concert (est $68.5M in 2022) and for the 4-night run at The Sphere last year, which I was at for 2 nights, they reportedly made a whopping $30 million for just the four shows… All of that is to say these are old, rich men and still know how to have an awesome time and even if you aren’t seeing them 10+ times a year in concert you have to respect their commitment to enjoying life with bits like ‘What if Phish was Seinfeld.’
As for John Mulaney’s Netflix show, if you haven’t watched it yet then this clip of him talking about Bone Thugs-N-Harmony might turn you into a fan:
There’s something incredible about the fact that they have all these studio resources and deep pockets but that can still happen to them.
