If you’re a regular viewer of Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, then you’ll know that the last several weeks have been building up to a much-anticipated showdown between the 42-year-old comedian and three teenage boys. The fight to the death (reputationally speaking) finally went down on Wednesday night’s season finale, and it brings me immense pleasure to report that Mulaney did, in fact, lose.
There were some ground rules that limited what the trio of 14-year-old boys were allowed to do to Mulaney—no punching, kicking, etc.—which I blame on both their moms and Netflix legal. And in order to win, they merely had to pin Mulaney to the ground. But it was nonetheless a thrilling 47-second duel, which culminated in a surprise performance of “Tha Crossroads” by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony—an entirely separate storyline in itself. (Mulaney previously revealed that he tried to book the group for an earlier episode and may have been the victim of a scam by someone posing as their manager.) Just absolutely incredible stuff all around.
Beginning next month, Mulaney will embark on a new standup tour (get tickets here). Fortunately for him, most comedy venues have an age restrictions that’ll prevent him from coming face to face with anymore teenage boys.
