Collins once told W magazine that to stay healthy you should eat lots of fruits and vegetables and sardines, but also cookies when you feel like it. She also owes her longevity to being “extremely sensible and very disciplined,” she told UK’s OK! Magazine. “I don’t stuff myself with food. I only eat half of what’s on my plate and I won’t deprive myself. I’ll drink wine, have dessert, eat toast, and have coffee with sugar,” she said.
Joan also revealed to W that she works out a few times a week, but steers clear of “no-pain, no-gain, Jane Fonda–type exercises. “I think that’s stupid to do after the age of 40,” she said, adding that “having a husband who’s 30 years younger is very helpful.”
Joan admits that during her younger years she regularly dieted and took speed to stay thin. “She said: “The added incentive about not acting nowadays is not having to diet any more. Your hips always had to look slimmer, your face thinner. As an actress you are always on a diet when working,” she told The Daily Mail. “I was told to take speed to help get the weight off. At times I was told I wouldn’t even get work because I was too fat. As soon as they saw me in the flesh they insisted I go on a diet and exercise every day.” What was her slim-down fast diet? “It was tomatoes and cottage cheese, lettuce and cottage cheese and cottage cheese and cottage cheese.”
Collins also attributes her figure to swimming regularly and working out with her trainer. She also loves to dance. Her favorite song? Pharrell Williams’ Happy, she told The Gloss.
In 2015, at the launch of her fragrance, “I Am Woman,” Collins revealed to the Daily Mail that she also consumed lots of healthy fats (avocados) and takes vitamin C, E, and omega oil supplements. “I think I’m just lucky,” she added to OK! “I also try to get enough sleep and always wear moisturizer, sunscreen, and night cream. I can’t tell you what brand because I don’t get paid for advertising it!”
