Jerry Seinfeld’s new movie Unfrosted has been largely panned by both critics and audiences alike, and given some of the ideas he had for the film, perhaps that’s no surprise.
By his own admission, Seinfeld recently revealed that he asked Chris Rock to parody his infamous Oscars night slap for the film about the creation of the Pop-Tart.
“The other thing I wanted to do that I almost did was Chris Rock was going to be the emcee of the Bowl & Spoon Awards — and we shot that right after the Will Smith slap,” Seinfeld said on the Fly on the Wall podcast, which is hosted by Dana Carvey and David Spade. “I was going to have somebody come up on the stage and have Chris punch ’em out as they got there.”
Seinfeld then explained that Rock, unsurprisingly, “wasn’t up to perform” following the March 2022 slap.
“He was a little shook from that event,” Seinfeld said. “That was what that scene was going to be.”
It’s now been over two years since Will Smith infamously slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards and neither of their careers have been the same since.
Smith, who won Best Actor on the night for his work in King Richard, has appeared in just one film since, and that was 2022’s scantily-seen Emancipation. Later this summer, however, the Oscar winner will be featured in his biggest role yet as he returns alongside Martin Lawrence for Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which will be hitting theaters on June 7.
As for Rock, he had a small role in the 2023 film Rustin and featured in the live-streamed Netflix special Chris Rock: Selective Outrage
