In January 2023, actor Jeremy Renner suffered a near fatal accident after he was pulled under his 14,000 snowcat plow. Renner suffered numerous serious injuries, including 38 broken bones, multiple fractures in his ribs, pelvis, legs, and face, a collapsed lung, a pierced liver, and a dislodged left eyeball.

Luckily for Jeremy Renner, his family, friends, and fans, he survived the incident and has since made a full recovery. Renner recently chronicled his near-death experience and his subsequent recovery in his new memoir My Next Breath, which was published on April 29.

While out on the promotional trail for his new revealing book, Renner stopped by Kelly Ripa’s podcast and detailed the dark thoughts he had after the accident.

According to Renner, when he was unconscious, he felt “removed from his body” and it was such an “exhilarating peace” that he “did not want to come back.”

“It’s a wonderful, wonderful relief to be removed from your body, It is the most exhilarating peace you could ever feel. You don’t see anything but what’s in your mind’s eye. Like, you’re the atoms of who you are, the DNA, your spirit. It’s the highest adrenaline rush, but the peace that comes with it… it’s magnificent. It’s so magical,” Renner said on Kelly Ripa’s podcast while promoting his new memoir My Next Breath.

“I didn’t want to come back. I remember I was brought back and I was so pissed off. I came back, I’m like, ‘Aww!’ I came back and saw [my] eyeball and I’m like, ‘Oh shit, I’m back.’ Saw my legs. I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s gonna hurt later.’ I’m like, ‘All right, let me continue to breathe.’”

Renner is set to make his return to acting this year when he appears in Wake Up Dead Man, the third film in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out franchise. In Glass Onion, the second Knives Out film, Renner is specifically referenced, as he — the actor, not a character — has his own line of hot sauce called “Renning Hot.”

While likely, it has not yet been confirmed if Renner will be playing himself in Wake Up Dead Man, which is scheduled to release on Netflix in the back half of 2025.
