Jeremy Renner has a new perspective on life and death after suffering a traumatic snow plow accident more than a year ago.
The Marvel star has come a long way following his near-fatal incident at the start of 2023; however, receiving a second chance at life has changed him in more ways than one. He recently opened up about his new beliefs, claiming he no longer fears the great beyond.
Jeremy Renner Says He Is ‘Excited’ For Death
Renner sat down for a candid interview on his miraculous survival on SiriusXM’s new show, “This Life of Mine With James Corden.” A clip of their conversation was shared on the program’s Instagram page, capturing the “Hawkeye” star rocking a dark green leather jacket over a gray top and black trousers.
The video opened with the 53-year-old actor sharing how his scary snow plow accident had changed his perspective on death and renewed his interest in living without fear. In his words:
“Because I was never afraid, mind you, of death prior. Now, I’m really not afraid of it. Now, I’m double downing. Yes, certainly not afraid of it. Now, I’m kind of excited for it.”
Renner explained that since tasting death, he realized that many of the emotions and problems in the world are unnecessary. Getting philosophical, he shared his new take on life with a somewhat poignant speech, saying:
“To be honest, it’s what life really is. This rock that we’re spinning on and this body and this language that we’re speaking and all these feelings and emotions and conflict is all horse s—. It’s meaningless in the scheme of things. Just saying…”
Naturally, Renner’s words sparked mixed reactions from fans. Some related to his new beliefs, while others found his truth a little hard to swallow. One critic asked, “I’m trying to figure out if he’s excited for death, why did he fight to be alive?”
This question caught another IG user’s attention, who responded, “He doesn’t actively want to die. No death wish. He’s just excited for the next phase.” Someone else didn’t like Renner’s statements and advised him to be grateful for God’s mercy, writing:
“So, if life is not about any of those things, Jeremy, what’s it about? I hope you have realized that you are alive only because of a miracle from God. With those injuries you sustained, you should be dead — but you are not. You were given a second chance at life for a purpose.”
Renner’s supporters disagreed with the criticisms, noting the actor had achieved enlightenment from the incident. “As someone who was close to death once, it’s a very peaceful and relaxing feeling knowing you are not in control of your destiny,” a fan claimed, adding: “I know this isn’t logical, but IYKYK.”
Jeremy Renner Marked The First Anniversary Of His Miraculous Recovery
A month before sharing his new perspective on life and death, Renner celebrated the first anniversary of his incredible recovery with a heartwarming post. He reflected on his survival with a picture of himself at a fitness facility, showing how far he had come since depending on walking aids last year.
“I was reminded that love, good will, hard work, and a legion of good humans are getting me through every day,” he captioned the post, adding his appreciation for everyone involved in his recovery. He continued writing:
“Thank you, bless you …. And as always, I hold my promise to be better, be stronger, and grow to surpass potential…. Bless you all.”
The “Avengers: Age of Ultron” star shared the same image on his IG Story and announced he was celebrating his recovery milestone. “My friend reminded me I got home from ICU a year ago,” he wrote above the picture before adding the undernote, “Lucky Man…”
Renner’s post came at the heels of another achievement — his spectacular return to work after the snow plow accident. He shared the good news on social media with a picture of himself on the set of the Paramount+ drama series “Mayor of Kingstown.”
The 53-year-old rocked a dapper suit in the snap, featuring a striped button-down shirt and a gray-and-black tie underneath a cozy coat. He completed the formal ensemble with a smirk while his brown hair was styled to one side.
“Day one on set … nervous today. Hope this works out that I can ACTUALLY pull this off for our production and, more importantly, the fans,” Renner captioned the sweet post.
