Jeremy Renner is not holding back any longer when it comes to questions about Hawkeye. During an interview with High Performance, the MCU star said that he did not do Hawkeye season two because Disney allegedly offered him half of his salary from season one. Yes, you read that right. The star of the show getting his salary cut in half seems like a very wild, and wrong, thing to request. (Thanks to Variety for bringing this to our attention.)
Renner said, “They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.’”
He goes on to seemingly hint that he believes his 2023 snowmobile accident could’ve played a part in the alleged low ball offer. Renner says that perhaps the company saw him as “half the Jeremy” because he got run over by the machine. However, Renner quickly comes to Marvel’s defense, saying the salary dispute had nothing to do with the comic giant. And, he did say he’d still love to portray Hawkeye again, but only if he is paid fairly. That seems more than reasonable.
Renner continues:
“This is not Marvel, mind you. This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It’s just the penny pinchers, the accountants. I told them to go fly a kite… So we didn’t see eye to eye on it… Sadly, I still love the character. I’d still love to do it, but I I had to defend myself. I didn’t ask for any more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made the first season. So it’s all disheartening that that didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.”
Hopefully Jeremy Renner will play Hawkeye again but he probably won’t want to do it on TV, considering his allegation that Disney offered him half of his previous salary. We will see what the future holds and hope that he continues to heal.
