Married in real life, Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo bring their quirkiness and chemistry to the big screen alongside Sam Milby in an adaptation of a Korean movie about a husband who convinces a womanizer to seduce his wife
MANILA, Philippines – Can a squabbling married couple stay together when another man — hired by the husband — comes along?
Jennylyn Mercado, Dennis Trillo, and Sam Milby find themselves in a love triangle with a twist as they star in the upcoming movie Everything About My Wife that will be released in cinemas nationwide on February 26.
Married in real life, Mercado and Trillo bring their quirkiness and chemistry — as seen on their viral TikTok videos — to the big screen in an adaptation of 2012 Korean romantic comedy film All About My Wife, which is about a husband who convinces a womanizer to seduce his wife after growing tired of her nagging.
Milby portrays the charismatic playboy who further drives a wedge between the characters of Mercado and Trillo.
“I guess the most important thing is to always understand your partner and to have a lot of patience. You should take time to understand what’s happening before you make a judgment,” Trillo told Rappler in Filipino in a media conference on Thursday, February 13.
Mercado and Trillo are no strangers to bumps and rough patches in their relationships.
The two first got together in 2010, broke up, reunited years later, and eventually tied the knot in 2021, with Mercado giving birth to their daughter Dylan Jayde in 2022.
“It’s not always fun. When you’re in a relationship, whether you’re married or girlfriend-boyfriend, there’s someone who gets hurt. We want to share the lesson of healing to people,” said Mercado.
Milby, for his part, said it takes forgiveness and empathy for a relationship to work.
“It’s all about choice, love is a choice. You choose the person. We may be going through something, we may have a problem now, but I still choose you. There could be other temptations in your life, but I still choose you,” said Milby.
“And that’s what love is — it’s making a choice and choosing through thick and thin, through better or worse, I still choose you.”
Together again
Mercado and Trillo have worked together in the past as they starred in the 2010 period drama film Rosario and 2015 drama series My Faithful Husband.
But it is the first time the two are teaming up for a romcom movie, which is a breath of fresh air for Trillo after recently being part of drama-heavy projects like 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Best Picture Green Bones, for which he won his second MMFF Best Actor award, and series Pulang Araw.
Trillo said acting alongside Mercado, who won the MMFF Best Actress award back-to-back in 2014 and 2015, brought out the best in him.
“I needed to maximize this chance. This is the first time [in a long while] that we’re in a project together. I need to at least be as good as her,” said Trillo.
The same goes for Mercado.
“No matter who you work with, it’s important that there’s still a challenge. It’s important to feel nervous even for a little bit because that’s what pushes you. When you’re complacent, you feel like you already know everything,” Mercado said.
“But when you’re a little nervous, it’s satisfying to work. You feel challenged to do your best.”
Meanwhile, Everything About My Wife is a reunion for Mercado and Milby since they did The PreNup, also a romcom movie, in 2015.
“One of the reasons why I accepted this was because of Jen. I really enjoyed working with Jen and I can say she hasn’t changed. She’s such a pleasure to work with,” said Milby, also praising Trillo in their first project together.
“It’s hard to mix work with love. But seeing them on set, it’s so easy for them. It’s such a refreshing thing to see a married couple work together. They’re able to mix that so easily.”
