Jennifer Lopez is delivering one of the most exciting roles of her career. “Kiss of the Spider Woman” has just shared its first trailer, showing a blonde Lopez delivering a bold and musical performance that’s likely to get tons of media attention.
“Kiss of the Spider Woman” is a movie adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical, which went on to win various Tony Awards that year.
Lopez plays the role of Ingrid Luna and the titular Spider Woman, a silver screen actress à la Marilyn Monroe, who’s brought to life by Molina, a prisoner who turns to her for comfort. As the film progresses, Molina imagines the Spider Woman in all sorts of fantastic settings, performing stunning musical numbers as a way to escape his reality.
The plot of the film is based on the 1976 novel of the same name, written by the Argentine writer Manuel Puig, exploring the relationship between Molina and his cellmate Valentin, a political prisoner. The cast is rounded out by Diego Luna and Tonatiuh, with the actors receiving rave reviews upon the film’s release at the Sundance Film Festival.
