Jennifer Lopez has had a tough 12 months, as she released an album to such middling reviews that she had to cancel her tour, starred in a terrible Netflix movie, and went through a dragged-out divorce with Ben Affleck. The start of 2025 hasn’t been any kinder, either, as the premiere of her film Unstoppable has been canceled due to the Los Angeles fires.
Fires have been tearing across Los Angeles, California all week, with over 1,000 structures being destroyed and approximately 155,000 residents being evacuated in the Palisades neighborhood alone.
At this time, the death toll is reported at 10 people and is expected to rise, with economic losses expected to exceed over $50 billion. All of this, obviously, is far more important that a movie premiere.
Still, given what a major metropolis Los Angeles is, major events have been affected, such as the NFC Wild Card round game between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings, which has been moved from LA to Arizona due to the tragedy.
“The event at the DGA Theater has been canceled ‘in light of today’s safety concerns around heightened wind activity and fire outbreaks in Los Angeles,’ a rep for the movie’s distributor, Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement to PEOPLE.”
“As much as we were looking forward to celebrating this wonderful and inspiring film with you, safety is our first priority. Thank you for your understanding and please stay safe.”
Unstoppable wasn’t the only film to have its Hollywood premiere canceled as the upcoming horror film Wolf Man, starring Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, also had its premiere screening nixed.
In addition to Jennifer Lopez, Unstoppable also stars Jharrel Jerome in the lead role of one-legged former NCAA champion Arizona State University wrestler Anthony Robles. Bobby Cannavale, Don Cheadle, and Michael Pena also star in the film, which releases on Prime Video on Thursday, Jauary 16.
