Jason Samel has released his new single and official music video for “Heads Bowed Down.” The New York City-based artist, producer and founder of the Long Island Yoga Festival and Buddha Jams Yoga in Glen Cove, N.Y., thoughtfully delivered the gratitude-tinged package as a nod toward today’s annual arrival of the Summer Solstice, International Yoga Day, and the onset of his own and aforementioned yoga gathering, which will occur this weekend, June 21 through 23.
“Heads Bowed Down” takes listeners on a sonic voyage from dark to light, emulating Samel’s own life experience–grappling with the effects of PTSD stemming from childhood abuse inflicted by the residential treatment school he attended. The musician uses the number to track his own progression and yoga practice to unlock hope and simmer on love. “In a world that can feel cold, we can find warmth by connecting with our true selves and everything around us. As we breathe in consciously and move with our breath, we release the barriers that hinder us from discovering boundless love. This remarkable journey called yoga fills me with gratitude as I share it with all who are ready,” Samel exclusively shared with Relix.
Striking the proper instrumental balance to evoke the emotive nature of Samel’s journey, the yogi and musician tapped scene favorites to assist on the track: Leslie Mendelson (background vocals), Scott Sharrard (guitar), Marco Benevento (organ, keys), Jason Crosby (fiddle), Brett Bass (bass). Clocking in at nearly six and a half minutes, today’s release serves as a marker of progress paired with an understanding that healing is a conscious journey toward bettering and improving daily–a continuum rather than instant gratification.
Paired with today’s song and music video, Samel launches the inaugural Buddha Jam-presented Long Island Yoga Festival. The first-time gathering features unique yoga sessions, meditation workshops, and live music from practitioners of the discipline. The event will occur today through Sunday, June 23.
