Jared Padalecki really wants to reunite with his old Supernatural running mates on The Boys before the superhero satire show ends with Season 5 — and it might just happen.
Over the past week, the actor has mentioned being in contact with The Boys and Supernatural creator Eric Kripke about a potential role in multiple interviews.
“Well, I’ll say this: Kripke and I texted today,” Padalecki told Variety after being asked for official confirmation. “It’s not been written yet, but I think he was saying [the final season] doesn’t even film until 2025. So yeah, I’m going to go play in Kripke’s newest playground. I had a great time the first time around, so I’m sure I’ll have a great time here again. I love the show. I think it’s hilarious and exciting.”
He continued, “But you were asking what my plans for the future were — and I love Jensen and Eric Kripke. Obviously, I’ll be indebted to [Kripke] and entangled with him forever. I met my wife because of him. I was Sam Winchester because of him. Supernatural happened because of him. So working with him on a show that I enjoy, I’m like, ‘Yeah, when do I fly out?’ But I don’t think we would film until at least January.”
Last week, Padalecki gave Deadline a similar quote. “We have talked [about a role]. As a matter of fact, we talked today,” he said. “I don’t think [Season 5] films until next year, but I will be ready when he makes the phone call. I’ll just say ‘Okay, when am I flying out?’”
For his part, Kripke has expressed his desire to have a reunion with Padalecki as well. “I feel like I have to complete my game of Supernatural Pokémon and I have my one big one — very big one — left to catch,” he told Variety in a separate interview.
Padalecki’s schedule has suddenly freed up after his show Walker was canceled by CW last month. He starred as Sam Winchester in Supernatural from 2005 to 2020.
Jensen Ackles, who played Sam’s brother Dean, joined The Boys cast as Soldier Boy in Season 3. Other Supernatural actors who’ve appeared in The Boys include Rob Benedict and Jim Beaver.
