Japanese Breakfast Releases Song for Materialists Soundtrack


Japanese Breakfast has released “My Baby (Got Nothing At All),” a song she made for Celine Song’s new A24 film Materialists. Listen to the track below.

Materialists hits theaters on June 13th. The accompanying soundtrack and score for Materialists was made by Daniel Pemberton and will release the same day. The film will also feature two covers by singer Baby Rose, one of Nico and the Velvet Underground’s “I’ll Be Your Mirror” and another of Nat King Cole’s “That’s All.”

Written and directed by Song, Materialists follows a professional matchmaker (Dakota Johnson) who finds herself caught in a love triangle between her ex-lover (Chris Evans) and a new beau (Pedro Pascal).

This isn’t the first time Michelle Zauner has created music for the screen. Back in 2024, she recorded a rendition of “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” for the Disney+ Marvel series Agatha All Along. Zauner also made the soundtrack for the 2021 video game Sable

Japanese Breakfast released their fourth album For Melancholy Brunettes (and sad women) in March via Dead Oceans. Zauner and the band are currently on tour to promote the record, playing to fans across Asia, Europe, the UK, and North America through November (get tickets here).

Materialists is the follow up to Song’s 2023 film Past Lives, which was nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
