In shock scenes, Farrell had squared up to Navarro and screamed at him while crew ran to break up the barney.

A new statement released by Navarro says: “Due to a continuing pattern of behaviour and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.

“Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.

“We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis.”

The musician signed off the statement with: “Our hearts are broken. Dave, Eric and Stephen.”

News of the on-stage incident broke out between Jane’s Addiction singer Farrell and Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s legend Navarro last Friday.

Farrell, 65, was caught on camera as he lost his cool while playing Ocean Days, before squaring up to 57-year-old Navarro.

He was captured shouting and screaming into his mic on stage before appearing to yell ‘F***you’ and barging into Navarro.

Farrell could then be seen squaring up to his band mate, as Navarro placed his hand on his chest to try and hold him back.

As Farrell shouted in his face, he lifted an arm and whacked Navarro’s hand away, causing him to stumble backwards.

Member of the backstage crew quickly rushed towards the chaos and try to restrain Farrell.

The singer then doubled over and sank to the floor, struggling against four men trying to hold him steady.

Navarro, still holding his guitar, calmly walked to the front of the stage – where the lights had now been dimmed – and placed his instrument down.

The concert was then brought to an abrupt end. Jane’s Addiction later cancelled their next gig in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Offering a refund to fans who had bought a ticket, the band said in a brief statement: “We want to extend a heartfelt apology to our fans for the events that unfolded last night.”

Farrell’s ‘real reason for fight’

Perry Farrell’s wife has since spoken out and claimed to know the real reason her husband hit his bandmate.

Etty Lau, who has been married to the musician for 22 years, posted a lengthy statement on Instagram in defence of her husband.

She claimed he had been suffering with vocal issues and, ‘feeling his band mates were drowning him out with their instruments, lost it’.

Etty said: “Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band.

“Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night.

“But when the audience in the first row, started complaining up to Perry cussing at him that the band was planning too loud and that they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it.”

She also said the band started playing Ocean Days before Farrell was ready and that he ended up “screaming just be to be heard”.

Etty said “Eric Avery won the fight”, after the bassist stepped in to restrain Farrell.

She added that her husband was “a crazed beast for the next half an hour” and had a breakdown, crying backstage.

Jane’s Addiction had been scheduled to perform 12 more tour dates across Canada and the US, finishing in California on October 16.
