Actor James Landry Hébert of “1883” chatted about starring in the new western movie “Trail of Vengeance.”

Aside from Hébert, it stars Rumer Willis, Eric Nelsen, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Jeremy Sumpter, and Jeff Fahey also star in this film, which was directed by Johnny Remo (who co-wrote the screenplay with Daniel Backman).

‘Trail of Vengeance’

Set in 1875, Katherine’s (Rumer Willis) life is shattered when her beloved husband Caleb (Jeremy Sumpter) falls victim to a murder orchestrated by the menacing Colonel Davis (Jeff Fahey), who hires Frank Cooper (Eric Nelsen) and Zeke (James Landry Hébert) as his henchmen.

Alone and overwhelmed, Katherine’s path crosses with John Scobell (Gbenga Akinnagbe), an American American man with a troubled past as a former Pinkerton Agent.

Despite initial reluctance, John is drawn to Katherine’s determination and the injustice of Caleb’s death. Together, they form an unlikely alliance fueled by a shared desire for retribution.

On being a part of “Trail of Vengeance,” he said, “It has been great. It is so nice being back in Arkansas where we filmed it. This movie feels like the little engine that could.”

Playing Zeke in the western

Hébert was drawn to his villainous character Zeke for several reasons. “The best thing was working with Eric Nelsen again,” he admitted.

“This time, we played very different characters. Essentially, we played good guys in ‘1883’ and bad guys in ‘Trail of Vengeance.’ It was interesting to play a character that didn’t like Eric Nelsen’s character that much,” Hébert elaborated.

“Even though we were henchmen, our characters were at odds with each other in ‘Trail of Vengeance’,” he noted.

“We all fell in love with Rumer’s horse in ‘Trail of Vengeance,’ who is called ‘Moose.’ He is the best horse. He is such a people horse; he loves people and he is so calm,” he added.

Working with Eric Nelsen

On working with Emmy and Tony winner Eric Nelsen, Hébert said, “I love that guy. At this point, we have done four westerns together.”

‘1883’

Hébert noted that “1883” was a “dream come true.” “It was a dream role, and it has been life-changing. I am forever grateful to Taylor Sheridan for the opportunity and the experience,” he said.

‘To Leslie’ film

Hébert recalled being a part of “To Leslie,” where he played Pete opposite Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough.

“That movie also felt like the little engine that could. The lead actress in it was so good,” he exclaimed. “I thought nobody plays a drunk southern better than me until I met Andrea Riseborough.”

“When she would switch back to her English accent, I was just blown away by her. It was so wild! For Andrea to get an Oscar nomination, it was very well-deserved,” he added.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he revealed, “Living life in the fast lane.”

“Life has been really fun lately,” he admitted. “This has been everything I’ve ever wanted, and things have been so exciting.”

‘Euphoria’ Season 3

Hébert spoke about his forthcoming stint in “Euphoria” on Max.

“I was just filming ‘Euphoria’ Season 3; that was a dream come true,” he admitted.

Superpower of choice

If he were to have any superpower, it would be “talking to animals, especially horses, for sure.”

Success

On his definition of the word success, Hébert expressed, “Success is finding fulfillment is chasing your dreams, and mine was to be an actor, which may be an unlikely dream.”

“I am blessed to be an actor at this point in my career, especially at a time when a lot of actors are not working. The fact that I am working in some of the best shows out there is a ‘pinch-me’ moment,” he elaborated.

“It feels like the life I’ve been waiting on has arrived, and I am just trying to make the most of it. I couldn’t be more grateful,” he said, effusively.

Closing thoughts on ‘Trail of Vengeance’

For fans and viewers, Hébert said, “I hope people enjoy the ride as much as I did. For me, it was so much fun, and it’s great being on these smaller productions because they feel like family.”

Hébert continued, “The cool thing about doing westerns is that you disappear into this other world in a different time, and I hope that the audience can experience that as well. That’s what I love most about doing westerns.”

“You can lose yourself in the era. I hope audience members can kind of lose themselves in this movie too,” he concluded.
