Late last year, James Gunn — the new co-CEO of DC Studios — told fans that they can expect an update on the future of the franchise in January. And so far, about two weeks into the new year, it’s been all quiet on the DC front. So far.
Taking to Twitter on Friday afternoon, Gunn confirmed that while fans will be hearing from him and co-CEO Peter Safran later this month, they will not be providing any new updates on filling the role of Superman, which is, of course, now vacant following the unceremonious axing of Henry Cavill.
“My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet,” Gunn said in response to a fan who tweeted that Euphoria star Jacob Elordi was being eyed for the role of Clark Kent in the DCU.
“Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t. We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them.
While Gunn seems intent on rebooting Superman, reports have largely indicated that Matt Reeves’ Batman franchise — which was launched with The Batman last March — will remain intact and will continue to grow, beginning with the Colin Farrell-starring Penguin series on HBO Max.
Despite the massive shake-up at DC, the studio still has three films set to release this year: Shazam! Fury of the Gods in March, The Flash in June, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on Christmas.
