After taking over the DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran made many changes. Some of the major ones included not signing back the existing actors—most notably Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot as Superman and Wonder Woman, respectively. However, the co-heads did announce the TV show Paradise Lost, and Diana Prince had a significant role in that.
There had been a rumor that Gunn wants this The Crown star to play the role of the Amazonian princess in the new DC Universe, taking over Gal Gadot. The Israeli actress received a lot of love and admiration as Wonder Woman in the former DCU. She made her first appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. She then got her solo film, which did well at the theatres. In 2020, Gadot got another stand-alone film in her lone franchise, but it was comparitively less appreciated than the first one.
Recently, a fan shared a report claiming James Gunn wants Elizabeth Debicki as DCU’s Wonder Woman and asked the Guardians of the Galaxy maker to debunk it. Gunn is very active on social media and often answers fan queries on Threads. Responding to the fan’s question, Matthew Simmons, the DC co-head, denied it.
James Gunn wrote, “This is coming from a site that’s just making up a bunch of stuff (I love working with Elizabeth, but I’ve never even had this thought).” For the unversed, Debicki and Gunn have worked together as Ayesha in MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 & 3. The Wonder Woman show Paradise Lost was announced in January last year, as per Screen Rant.
Gal Gadot is reportedly not returning as Wonder Woman in the DCU. Hence, the question remains: who could be suitable for the part then? No new names have come up as of yet. Gunn is currently busy with his Superman movie starring David Corenswet. Its first set picture from Norway has been making the internet rounds now. It is snowy, and reportedly, the first scenes from the movie are being filmed there.
