Jake Paul snapped back at Floyd Mayweather after the undefeated boxer said it would be “too easy” to beat the YouTuber-turned-professional-boxer in a fight.
Floyd “Money” Mayweather joined The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 26. During his sit-down, the former professional boxer took shots at Jake Paul.
”Easy, too easy. At 48 [years old], too easy,” Mayweather expressed after Fallon asked him about fighting Paul.
Fallon also prompted a discussion about the Paul vs. Tyson fight from November 2024, which had technical issues after 60M+ viewers tuned in via Netflix. After laughing at the topic, Mayweather explained:
“Well, basically, when you’re watching boxing for free, you can have millions and millions and millions, hundreds of millions of views. But, when you’re watching Floyd Mayweather, you have to pay. I did Pay Per View numbers, check the record.”
Paul quickly fired back at Mayweather via X, saying he would defeat him in only a couple of rounds. “You bum. Deji gave you a black eye in an event that had 4,000 people in it. Deji hahahah. I would knock you out in 2 rounds, and you can’t sniff Mike Tyson’s toe,” Paul tweeted.
Boxing fans react to idea of Paul vs. Mayweather fight
Though Mayweather retired in 2017 with an undefeated record of 50 wins, his remarks about Paul were enough for fans to want him back in the ring.
“Okay this needs to happen now,” commented one under Paul’s X post.
“MAKE THIS FIGHT,” said another.
Many boxing fans also made their opinions heard about who they think would win if Paul boxed Mayweather.
Floyd Mayweather and Deji.
“No doubt in my mind Jake Paul catches Mayweather with an overhand right and sends him [back] to retirement,” wrote one.
“I don’t even hate saying this, but Jake would fold Mayweather. Weight classes for a reason,” said another.
“Jake Paul, you don’t have a chance on your best day to beat Mayweather lmao… the only reason you beat grandpa Tyson is because he let you,” added a third.
Though fans would like to see Paul vs. Mayweather, nothing is set in stone. Paul has, however, been on the hunt for potential competitors. Early February, it was announced that he’d be fighting Canelo Álvarez. The match was soon canceled after Álvarez agreed to fight a different opponent.
